Zimmerman’s Wrapped Ferrari 458 Spider
We have been following an interesting story recently, and now that it involves Nissan we just had to share it with our audience. There is a famous Canadian DJ who named Joel Zimmerman, who goes by the stage name of Deadmau5, who has been in the news recently for what he has done with his Ferrari. Zimmerman decided to wrap his Ferrari 458 Spider with his trademark Nyan Cat theme, which is a pixelated cat with a rainbow trail following behind it. People have actually been referring to Zimmerman’s wrapped Ferrari 458 Spider as a Purrari.
Now, you would think that this would not be a big deal. After all, he paid for the car and he owns the car. However, Ferrari was not amused by his stunt to customize the car. They immediately sent Zimmerman a cease-and-desist letter when they heard about what he had done to the car.
Ferrari demanded that the wrap be removed due to logo infringements. Zimmerman did comply and had the graphics removed from his Ferrari 458 Spider, although he was not happy about it. However, when Nissan heard about this story they knew it would be an excellent public relations opportunity, so they decided to reach out to Zimmerman.
Nissan took to social media and posted a picture of a Nyan cat wrapped 2015 Nissan GT-R on Twitter. They supposedly offered Zimmerman one as a replacement for the Ferrari that he promptly put up for sale after Ferrari sent him the cease-and-desist letter. The picture that Nissan posted to Twitter was just the Nyan Cat wrap photoshopped onto a Nissan GT-R. However, they would be happy to make him a real one if he wants it. Nissan has actually done something like this before for a celebrity. In 2012 they made a custom gold painted GT-R for the olympic running superstar Usain Bolt and gave him the job title of “Director of Excitement”.
