Nissan Engineers Build Leaf Pickup Truck

Nissan Leaf Pickup Truck

Here at Matt Castrucci Nissan we are all automotive enthusiasts. We love anything that is innovative or creative in the automotive industry. After all, that is what progresses the industry year after year. Recently our staff heard about a story where engineers at Nissan took a stock Nissan Leaf and built it into a pickup truck. We thought that this Nissan Leaf pickup truck story was a true example of innovation, creativity and ingenuity at work, so we decided to use this blog post to share the story with our audience.

Automakers have been known to build very quirky and out-there vehicles that are not intended for production. We see this a lot in concept cars at auto shows and in random project builds. Well, engineers at Nissan’s Technical Center in Stanfield Arizona recently completed building a Nissan Leaf truck, which they named “Sparky”. The truck was built by fashioning together multiple vehicles in order to get a design that would work with the Leaf.

The engineers actually came up with the idea when they identified the need for a small pickup truck to haul tools and supplies around the grounds of the Technical Center. Instead of using an existing Nissan truck model like the frontier they decided that it would be fun to make this a team-building project and that is how the idea to build the Nissan Leaf truck was born.

To create the vehicle they had to take a stock Nissan Leaf and splice the front end of it together with the cargo bed from a Nissan Frontier pickup truck. It was a difficult process for them to get the project completed and involved many different modifications and adjustments, but we think it turned out awesome in the end.

Obviously this would not be a practical vehicle for Nissan to sell to the public and therefore will most likely never be a production car. However, it is still a really cool concept and will probably be a lot of fun to drive around the Technical Center in Stanfield Arizona.
