Big Changes Could be Coming to Next Generation GT-R

Next Generation GT-R Rumors

Nissan’s iconic supercar is better than ever for the 2015 model year and has had a lot of people in the industry buzzing. However, the new changes were not enough to improve sales numbers and that has put the GT-R in jeopardy of being discontinued for future model years. Currently Nissan is only moving about 90 cars in the United States and 60 in Japan per month. In fact, Nissan’s CEO Carlos Ghosn said that he no longer has any interest in making cars that do not sell large volumes of units. This has really put the pressure on Nissan engineers and product planners to make the GT-R more desirable to consumers for next year. In this blog post we will be discussing a lot of the next generation GT-R rumors that have started swirling around throughout the automotive industry.

Nissan product planners have been doubling down their efforts to make the GT-R more sellable and marketable in both the United States and abroad in hopes of increasing sales numbers. One thing they will be doing is offering a hybrid-drivetrain GT-R next year. The race-ready Nissan GT-R Nismo Edition will also come with gas-electric technology. In fact, they will actually be entering a hybrid drivetrain GT-R in the historic 24-hours of LeMans race next year. In our opinion this is a smart move for Nissan because 24-hours of LeMans is the oldest sports car race on the planet. So a good showing there could really up the stock of the GT-R, generate some good press and promote sales growth.

Another way that Nissan product planners and engineers are looking to increase the desirability of the GT-R is by improving its exterior appearance. Up until this point the Nissan GT-R has never really been known for its looks. It has been known for being a high-performance super car that can compete with exotic supercars like the Bugatti Veyron for a fraction of the price. However, all of that will be changing next year because Nissan claims that they will be putting a newfound focus into improving the exterior appearance of the GT-R. There are rumors floating around that the next generation of the GT-R will be dressed in carbon fiber and have an appearance that is similar to their Nissan 2020 Vision Gran Turismo concept car, which is pictured above.

In order to keep the costs down on this new GT-R redesign they will be carrying some things over from the previous model year such as the 3.8-liter, twin turbo, six-cylinder engine. However, they will be adding an electric motor to it that will increase the torque and horsepower significantly.

Now, its important to keep in mind that a lot of this information is just rumors and speculations at this point, but the thought that a lot of this could potentially be true has all of us here at Matt Castrucci Nissan Dayton OH, very excited.
