Nissan is the Most Fuel Efficient Automaker in the United States

Most Fuel Efficient Automaker in America

Recently the EPA named Nissan as the most fuel efficient automaker in America in its annual “Trends” Report. The vehicles were measured for fuel economy as a combined fleet, not simply as individuals. So the average fuel economy of the entire lineup of Nissan and Infiniti vehicles came out to 26.2 combined miles per gallon, which was higher than any other automaker in the United States.

The EPA Trends Report is created as an authoritative reference on carbon dioxide emissions from brand new vehicles, fuel economy, powertrain technology and more in the United States.

The EPA mainly used the data that they collected from the 2013 model year to come up with these 2014 results. Nissan’s 26.2 mile per gallon average across all models in the Nissan and Infiniti lineup marked an 8.7 percent increase over the 2012 model year. That was also the largest one-year increase in fuel economy out of all other automakers.

Nissan redesigned three of its models to be significantly more fuel efficient in the 2013 model year: Altima, Sentra, Pathfinder. So those three models obviously played a significant role in their success overall fuel economy success.

The Nissan and Infiniti lineup of vehicles are 4.4 percent ahead of the next closest competitor in fuel economy and will most likely continue to extend that lead even further next year with all of the changes and advancements that they have had with their new models this year.
