Memorial Day ceremony Dayton National Cemetery | Memorial day parade Dayton OH
We remember and honor the fallen on Memorial Day, but too often this special day becomes about celebration rather than reflection. The Dayton VA Center set out to change that in 2014 when it canceled its Memorial Day parade permanently in favor of having a parade on Veterans Day instead. While there is no longer a Dayton Memorial Day parade in Dayton, OH, the Memorial Day ceremony at the Dayton National Cemetery is one of the easiest ways to give back on the special day.
On Monday, May 25, at 9:30 a.m., the Dayton National Cemetery will be kicking off a very special ceremony that is open to the public. Boy Scouts, veterans, volunteers, community members and a variety of other individuals from the Dayton, OH, and surrounding area will gather to help put flags on all the gravestones in the cemetery.
Before the flurry of activity to decorate the gravestones, all gathered will take time to remember the fallen with a 20-minute ceremony led by representatives from the American Legion. It’s certain to be a very special day.
The event is open to the public and will take place at monument hill at the Dayton National Cemetery. For organizations for boy scout groups, registration takes place at the tent on the hill. For members of the public that simply wish to help, no registration is needed and simply locate a Dayton National Cemetery employee or volunteer to get involved in the decorating after the ceremony by the American Legion.
For more information on the flag ceremony, contact the Dayton National Cemetery by calling 937-262-2115. The Dayton National Cemetery is located at 4400 West Third Street, Dayton, OH 45428.
From all of us at Matt Castrucci Nissan, we hope you and yours have a wonderful and safe Memorial Day weekend.
