3 tips for keeping genuine leather seats looking new

How to condition genuine leather seats

You paid good money for that premium leather interior and protecting it doesn’t have to be a hassle. We’ve all seen what neglect does to genuine leather seats: bad, bad things. It’s a tragedy really, but it can all be avoided with some simple maintenance and the right products.

Over time, cowhide loses its natural oils that are essential to keeping the material supple. Dirt, grime and harmful UV rays take a toil on natural leather and when not properly maintained the material can form cracks and dry out. The best way to keep leather looking great is to help restore those essentials oils and UV protectants periodically. There are a number of great products available that do just that.

The two most important steps in keeping genuine leather in good condition is the right product and a routine. Set up a monthly or quarterly routine in your phone to take a few minutes to condition your vehicle’s leather interior. Avoid vinyl cleaners and products that are petroleum based. The biggest problem is these types of cleaners sit at the surface level and don’t penetrate deep into the pores of the material. Instead, you just get a shiny finish and a bunch of product sitting on the surface of your upholstery. Not good.

When you use a good, dedicated leather product and use it a number of times during the year, you are protecting your investment and keeping your vehicle looking great. The best part is it’s so easy!
