Nissan and the Apple Watch: A grand adventure

Will the Apple Watch work in Nissan vehicles?

Apple fans are rejoicing as today is the first day the Apple Watch goes on sale. The highly anticipated gadget is arguably the most sophisticated smartwatch on the market and is changing the industry as we know it today. For tech-savvy Nissan drivers who will be purchasing the Apple Watch, the good news is it will work in Nissan vehicles equipped with NissanConnect. The good news doesn’t stop there.

Navigating the city streets with your GPS just got more fun. When the Apple Watch works in tandem with the iPhone and NissanConnect, the Watch will “ping” and wrist “tap” depending on the directions indicated by the GPS. The watch even gives turn-by-turn navigation. We’re excited to see just how the Apple Watch adds to the Nissan driving experience as more apps and software updates become available.

While the Apple Watch has some function independent of the iPhone, it’s meant to work in tandem with the smartphone. Apple has really intended for the Watch to be an extension of the iPhone. How that will continue to translate into the automotive realm is to be seen. Apple CEO Tim Cook has discussed that the Apple Watch is designed to replace car fobs and possibly car keys. The possibilities are truly endless.

Currently some of the easiest ways to use your Apple Watch on your daily commute is by connecting it to your iPhone and then syncing it to NissanConnect through Bluetooth or Apple’s CarPlay app. Nissan vehicles equipped with NissanConnect with Navigation and Mobile Apps or NissanConnect with Mobile Apps will be able to connect either way. For Nissan vehicles with NissanConnect with Navigation only, connecting via Bluetooth is the only option. To see what package your Nissan vehicle has, check out this helpful chart.

As more apps and software updates become available this process could become even more straightforward. We’ll be sure to share the latest updates on the what’s next in the tech industry and how it will impact your driving experience.
