2016 Nissan Maxima combats inattentive driving with smart tech

2016 Nissan Maxima Driver Attention Alert technology

Inattentive driving is a real issue today, but Nissan is working to change that with the integration of the new Driver Attention Alert technology in the 2016 Maxima. The new technology is intended to be a simple, but effective way to help prevent the driver from falling asleep at the wheel. Nissan debuted the new technology and 2016 Maxima at the New York International Auto Show earlier this month. The 2016 Maxima is the first vehicle to use Nissan innovative technology and the feature is a powerful addition to the Maxima’s luxurious interior.

How does the 2016 Nissan Maxima Driver Attention Alert work?

The 2016 Nissan Maxima Driver Attention Alert technology works by taking a reading or baseline of the driving behavior for the first 15 minutes of the drive. After it gets an idea of how the driver operates the vehicle normally, it will observe for any erratic movements of the vehicle that contradict that baseline. If erratic driving behavior is detected, the safety system will emit a beep and a coffee cup icon will appear in the instrument panel along with a message, “Take a break?”

With the alert system it is intended that drivers will take the hint and will pull off the road for some much needed R&R. While it is first and foremost the drivers responsibilty to remain attentive at the wheel, the safety feature is just another way to inform the driver.

The luxurious 2016 Nissan Maxima is expected to go on sale as early as this summer and features a variety of updates and improvements.
