Preparing your car for a road trip
There are a few simple precautions you can take to ensuring a smooth drive all the way to your road trip destination. The first thing we recommend doing is taking your Nissan into an authorized Nissan service center, such as the service center at Matt Castrucci Nissan, for a full vehicle inspection. Service technicians will be able to diagnose any hidden issues as well as make suggestions for services that should be performed, like an oil change or filter change, before embarking on your journey. We also suggest paying close attention to your tires before hitting the road. Check for any tears or bulges in the side wall, and make sure there is plenty of tread left. To test tread without a gauge, stick a quarter upside-down in the tire. If you can still see the top of George Washington’s head when the quarter is in position, you’ll want to seriously consider replacing your tires before you leave for your trip.
Packing a roadside emergency kit
Finally, we highly suggest packing a roadside emergency kit and putting it in your trunk. We know that trunk space is extremely precious and limited on road trips, but we think that having a roadside emergency kit is well worth it. Items you’ll want to pack in the kit include a flashlight, blanket, batteries, cell phone charger, and non-perishable food.
